Lake County Sheriff's Office transformed the old DMV on CR 561 just on the outskirts of Tavares into the new inmate video visitation and criminal registration building.
When someone is arrested, and they can’t post a bail bond, family and friends want to be able to visit with them. Maintaining relationships when you are doing county time is very important for the inmate’s mental health and their growing process. Positive support and reminders of home will hopefully have an impact on the inmate’s future actions.
Lake County detention inmate in-person visitation was once held at the Lake County jail in Tavares Florida before the Covid pandemic. When someone was arrested and not able to post bail to be released, part of their processing was to create a visitation list. The visitation list included names, phone number, and address of family and friends that would need to be approved. The approval process usually would take 2-3 days and there were some disqualifiers in place to help keep the jail safe. Visitors were disqualified if they were a victim of a violent crime involving the inmate, and if they were released from jail themselves within the last 90 days.
Video Visitation
For many months there was not an affordable option to have visitation with your loved ones. When Covid hit us all, the Lake County Jail took precautions to make sure they did the best they could to prevent an outbreak. This is when in person visitation ceased to exist and video visitation started to take off.
Video visitation is offered by Securustech https://securustech.net/video-products/index.html and can be done from anywhere. Onsite visitation at the new inmate video visitation can also be set up with your Securus account.
